True Love Waits

By Alyssa Avant What is true love? Have you ever thought that you were in love? I know I did when I was dating; early on in my teen years. But was it really love? I am not going to say for sure, but I do know that the Bible describes love best. It does so in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 which say, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” These are all characteristics of true love. Love is also about a relationship. The purest form of a love relationship is that of Jesus Christ. We must look for characteristics of Jesus in another person in order to find true love. So many times today, we allow other characteristics such as physical appearance, popularity, or personality to attract us to someone else. This causes us to be convinced that it is true love and then we often share the rarest gift that we have with the wrong person. Love is not an emotion, but rather both a commitment and a devotion to someone else. If you are truly committed to and devoted to something you can wait for it. Christ was so devoted to us that he gave his own life. We need to be so devoted to our true love that we can wait to give them our rarest gift. Likewise, sex and love are not the same. Sex is a completion of two people becoming one. The Bible explains it is a part of a marriage relationship, another gift given to us by God. Pre-marital sex only leads to pain and heartache because it does not include the characteristics of the true love relationship, that of commitment and devotion. If you think about it, most people who participate in pre-marital sex do it on a whim or because of a long night of drinking. They are not in any means committed to or devoted to the person with whom they share their rarest gift. I can remember vividly being a part of a True Love Waits rally. The True Love Waits campaign began in 1993. I was 13 years old. Standing in about the second pew of the church. I was asked to sign a card committing to stay sexually pure until marriage. I signed that card and committed in my heart also to stay sexually pure. So did my best friend, Laura. We even had a conversation afterwards saying that we would hold each other accountable. That next year Laura moved away. I was not in constant contact with her, and therefore it was a little more difficult to hold each other accountable. However, almost 2 years later, late one night, I had just arrived home from a date with my boyfriend; when the phone rang. I fully expected it to be my boyfriend who always called me after he arrived home. However, it wasnt, it was Laura, speaking through her tears, told me that she had broken her promise and had given away her rarest gift that night. She shared with me how badly she regretted it, how much she felt cheated, how she felt scared, alone, and dirty. It hurt me so bad that she had done it and I longed to reach out over the phone lines and make it better. But, there was nothing I could do. You see, when you have sex outside of marriage, that person can so easily and freely walk away from you because there is no real commitment made between the two of you. That night, Lauras boyfriend had to go home, they werent married, they were young, stupid, and had made a mistake. They broke up later and there was nothing left for her to hang on to, no way to feel that love or devotion. I can tell you that my friend was heartbroken and I can tell you that true love waits and heartbreaks dont. If you want to be heartbroken, give away your rarest gift to the wrong person too soon. Therefore, how can you avoid this heartbreak occurring in your life? Well, the Bible says, Do not be mislead, bad company corrupts good character. 1 Corinthians 15:33 When I was in high school I was constantly pressured more so by my friends and peers than by my boyfriend himself to participate in pre-marital sex. If you surround yourself with those who are sinning and in sin then you too will be pulled into sin. I know that this is sometimes unavoidable. However, be watchful and mindful of those with whom you spend your time. People will automatically think you are like those that you hang around. And, as my dad always used to say, you will be guilty by association. Plus, you will be more tempted. Everyone undergoes this temptation. However, how you choose to respond to it is what is important. The Bible says, No Temptation has seized you except what is common to man, And God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV) It is important that you are ready, that you know how to avoid this temptation. For instance, what you spend your time thinking about and dwelling upon will eventually become what you will do. Your thoughts do indeed become your actions. Psychologists have proven this true. If you dwell upon lusting after the opposite sex, then you will be led into the temptation and indeed sin. Remembering that whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. A great idea is the birth of a new small business. But as a self-employed small business owner, you cant afford to take chances on ideas without getting more information about what your entire market audience wants and what theyre willing to pay for it. Talking to 10 or 20 other people isnt enough. Youve got to talk to thousands. In the military and in NASA, they use a term called ground truth. While they can observe things via satellite and other distant monitoring devices, nothing beats getting down on the ground and seeing whats really happening in real life. If youre in a well-defined industry, like toy manufacturing, you might find that your national professional organization has already conducted research studies on behalf of the members of the organization. Should you hang on and hope a spark develops, or should you break if off and risk losing a potentially wonderful relationship? Since some of the most enduring and passionate romances start as friendships, it’s possible your feelings may change, but if you dread the kiss goodnight, they probably won’t. If you like the person as a friend, make your feelings known. Honesty is paramount. Treat others as you would have them treat you, always, especially when it comes to dating. Your next step is to attract passion. You know what passion feels like, so make a commitment to feeling it twice a day by using the Law of Attraction: Construct the type of person (but not a specific person) you could fall in love with, bring that person to life in your imagination, and feel yourself in his or her arms. Smell the detergent in his shirt. Feel her breath on your neck. Where are you? Is he pushing you on a swing in the park? Is it raining? Is there music playing in the background? When you impress your subconscious with your desire, things happen. Why Can’t I Lose Weight

By Jared Wash Eating Too Much I am a strong believer in sound nutrition and preach that nutrition is not just how much you eat but when, what, and why? These three words determine if you lose weight or gain weight. Lets break them down. When, What, and Why? Eating at certain periods in the day is crucial for healthy nutrition and satisfying weight loss. For starters, the two most important meals of the day are breakfast and dinner. These to meals are the jump start and hibernating factors of your metabolism. Eating a big breakfast will ensure you are burning calories all day while elevating your metabolism as much as possible without exercise. Dinner is the hibernating factor as it should be your last meal of the day and I might add the smallest one too. You have two choices on what your dinner will do for you. If you eat a low carb, low fat, and high protein meal your metabolism will most likely burn fat throughout the night while you are sleeping. If you eat a high card and calorie dinner your metabolism will do its best to try burning all those calories you just ate before you go to bed but most often they will go straight to your fat storages. Do have your body turning your food you ate during the day to fat while you sleep. Instead, force your body to burn fat all day and all night long. Not Eating Enough Not eating enough calories will decrease the amount of calories your body burns during the day by itself that also indicated having a slower metabolism. Personally, when someone tells me they want to lose weight while only eating 1200 calorie or less per day diet automatically has me saying in my head that it is a sure-fire way to ensure that they don’t lose a pound. Determining the right amount of calories to consume for weight loss is very important, and is the most effective method for losing weight. Exercise Is Not Efficient I dont like to step on anybodys feet on this section but most people dont know how to exercise that will actually give them results. I love to see people walking around town with friends and family or doing lap swim at the city pool as they are having fun while exercising. On the other hand; if your goal is to lose weight as fast as possible, than just walking is not effective enough for your desired results. Im not saying you have to go through hell but a little intensity is the key for success. Besides encouraging you to increase the physical activity in your daily life, your workouts should consist of weight training and cardio. Depending if you are going to workout 3, 4, 5, etc. days in a week, remember that you only have to be in the gym no longer than hour when you increase your intensity. Some simple tips for increasing your intensity are super sets in the weight room to lift more in less time. Another tip is lifting the appropriate weight, so if your going to lift around 15-20 reps than your muscle should be burning between 15-20. Keep shorter rest periods as this will keep your heart rate up, and your fat burning accelerated. Diet Is Not Efficient Even if you take the time and motivate yourself to increase your exercise, you must consider cleaning up your diet for the determining factor that it makes up 80% for losing weight. Healthy eating consist of eating balanced meals, eating the right portions at the right times, and one of the most important, the right foods at the right times. Some simple tips are to consume more fruits and vegetables while making sure to eat a heart healthy breakfast to jump start your day. I recommend increasing daily protein in take as it speed up the metabolism 35% more than carbohydrates and fats, and is less likely to be stored as fat. Another tip that should follow this one is to consume enough water during the day to keep your body hydrated and can also help decrease your hunger cravings. A few tips I am going to leave you with are eating less-processed foods, stick with whole grain carbs, and purchase extra low fat ground beef/steak so the fat in take is not excessive. Your day should consist of more carbs in the morning and decreasing throughout the day till dinner that should be low carb and high protein. Dont cut yourself short of your weight loss goals with poor eating. Eating clean makes your body adjusts to being lean. Too Much Stress Having too much stress in your life can make weight loss seem impossible and its not all your fault. When you are stress your body releases a hormone called cortisol. This stress hormone regulates blood sugar, energy production, inflammation, and healing. Too little of cortisol can leave you fatigue and basically feeling like crap. If thats not bad enough, if you have to much cortisol your body mobilizes the energy into mostly fat making weight gain every easy. There are many types of form of stress but let me list out some ways to decrease this effect. Get enough sleep preferably 6-8 hours Eat a balanced diet Exercise regularly to relieve stress Take 30 minutes and do something relaxing Drink mostly water and decrease consumption of caffeinated beverages We all have every busy lives and stress is one of the things that many people dont think of when they cant seem to lose any weight.
