In the contract he promised to pay Jean Calment the amount of $625 a month, (en viager), meaning he would continue paying that amount until the death of Mrs. Calment. Since Jeanne was 90 years old at the time she signed the contract, Mr. Raffray thought he was doing an excellent business. He figured the lady would die very soon. But time was not in favor of the real estate investor since 30 years later in 1995 he, the buyer, died at the age of 75. Andre Francois Raffray had paid the old lady the sum of $230,000. Still Two years later the sons of Mr. Raffray continued sending cheques for $625.00 each month, and Jean Calment at 120 years of age seemed as she had still a lot more years to live. Jeanne Louise Calment, the world’s oldest living person in 1997, died at the age of 122 on August 4, that year. She was born in Arles, France on February 21, 1875. Living a long life is probably the aim of many people around the world. However old age can only be enjoyed if the person is healthy and mentally alert. Some people inherit longevity from their parents; while others get to old age by taking good care of themselves. They received a good nutrition since the infancy. Who knows if the reader will get to live 90, 100 or 120 years? Only time will tell. It doesnt matter how long you will live the ideal is that you enjoy of good health always.
