Why You Must Have Fresh Wedding Flowers on Your Wedding Day

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Mayoor Patel Other than the groom and the dress, the most important element to the bride is the wedding flowers! No other decoration says ‘wedding’ more than the flowers! They can be just in the wedding party’s bouquets and buttoniers, and on the alter, or so much more. Wedding flowers can actually be the theme in every decoration, the church, the path out of the church, the reception hall, and on every table in the dining room. If the bride is very picky about having only her favorite flower, however, this proposition sounds pretty expensive! If money is no object, the elegance of having all roses or all gardenias for the wedding flowers that will be everywhere, would be superior! However, if money is an issue, the favorite flowers could be reserved for the bridal party alone, and then a mixture of other, less expensive flowers could be used for the remainder of the wedding flower arrangements and decorations. Actually, the wedding flower arrangements on the reception dinner tables should be small, since you need the room for dishes, glasses, etc. Simple little bouquets in tiny vases would suffice. Maybe just the flower in the middle of the bouquet could be the favorite, so as to tie the theme together with the bridal party’s wedding flowers. These dinner table centerpiece bouquets, can be collected by guests when the party is over, and taken home and dried. This way, not only the bridesmaid’s and the lucky lady who caught the wedding flower bouquet will go home with flowers to treasure. Many more guests will have flowers to remember the beautiful day they have shared. Another great wedding flower idea is to have one flower by each plate on the dining table. In a very elegant catered affair, with multiple courses, you could even have a different flower for each course with each plate. If one was absolutely filthy rich, there could even be a big bowl full of wedding flowers (for instance gardenias or roses) at the back of the church, or reception hall to be handed out by the flower girl to each female guest as they leave! Nothing says wedding like flowers! Unfortunately, for some reason, more people seem to be allergic to the environment these days and flowers have always been one of the primary irritants. For this reason, and also for the reason of keeping the wedding flowers forever, some people prefer to use silk flowers for their weddings. However, without the scent of the live wedding flowers, something will be lacking in the total wedding experience. Silk flowers may be just as pretty and colorful and may, in fact last forever but compared to live flowers, are not at all sensual. It is up to the individual which way they want to present their stunningly beautiful moment in time. Mayoor Patel is the writer for the website http://www.weddings.wares-are.us/. Experience Women’s Health Through Homeopathy

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Jason Fleming My sister experienced debilitating PMS and menstrual cramps. My mother lived with chronic yeast infections. And, during menopause, my aunt suffered from extreme vaginal dryness that precluded any thought of sexual intercourse. After seeking the support of conventional western doctors and trying all sorts of prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, each of these women turned to me–the homeopathic “oddball” in the family–hoping that I could help them find relief. My answer to each of them was, “Of course.” I was able to answer with confidence because I’ve helped many women find natural relief from common female complaints over my years as a homeopathic practitioner. From bladder infections and menstrual cramps to cellulite, wrinkles, and childbirthing challenges, homeopathic medicine provides extremely gentle, yet fast and effective relief from countless conditions of the female body. Through the use of homeopathic remedies, women can move from illness into health without exposing themselves to the dangerous side effects that are associated with many conventional prescription and OTC medications. Homeopathic Health Remedies Work Without Dangerous Side Effects Here are some of the most common women’s conditions that homeopathy treats and the remedies most often associated with them: Vaginal yeast infections. When faced with a vaginal yeast infection that’s about to drive you mad with burning and itching, it’s quite understandable that you reach for an OTC can of “pharmaceutical vaginal pesticide.” But, please don’t do that to your wonderful body. The short-term relief you get is not worth the long-term side effects and imbalances that will result. Further, if you use a conventional OTC treatment for vaginal yeast and you don’t actually have a yeast infection, you might be helping to create a drug-resistant strain of yeast in your vagina. Instead, try out one or more of these homeopathic remedies that help the body restore and maintain healthy vaginal flora — without the nasty side effects: Pulsatilla, Sepia, or Candida Albicans. (Yes, Candida Albicans is a type of yeast that grows in the vagina. But, based on the homeopathic principal that “like cures like,” a highly dilute amount of the offending substance can often result in a cure.) Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and menstrual cramps. If you suffer from chronic PMS or consistently debilitating menstrual cramps, I encourage you to work with a homeopathic practitioner who will prescribe your constitutional remedy. To find this remedy, the homeopath will take into account all of your symptoms–mental and emotional as well as physical. You will be asked to describe food cravings, sleep patterns and dreams, reactions to hot and cold, even sexual functioning so that the right constitutional remedy can be found. However, if you experience symptoms of PMS or painful cramps only on occasion, try one or more of the following remedies to gain relief: Lycopodium, Pulsatilla, Sepia, or Thuja. Painful urination and bladder infections. Most women will suffer at one time or another from acute urinary pain. According to Jonas and Jacobs in “Healing With Homeopathy,” urinary tract infections are usually self-limiting, meaning the infection will subside without medical intervention in most cases. The authors suggest that you try drinking at least one 8-ounce glass of water or cranberry juice every hour at the onset of the infection. If that doesn’t resolve the problem within a few hours, then I encourage you to try one of these homeopathic remedies proven to stimulate bladder health: Berberis Vulgaris, Cantharis, or Hepar Sulphuris. Menopause. According to a Journal of the American Medical Association report, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) greatly increases a patient’s risk of breast cancer. While this treatment does indeed ease hot flashes and other acute symptoms of menopause, there are other treatments that are far less risky. Homeopathy offers a range of remedies that will relieve symptoms of menopause–including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, night sweats, and mood swings–with absolutely no negative side effects or risks of cancer. Some of the remedies my clients (and my aunt!) have used with great (and almost immediate) success include: Sanguinaria, Bryonia, and Ignatia. The Benefits of Topical Application While many homeopathic remedies are taken orally in the form of tiny pills, it is my personal belief that topical application is much more effective. Thus, I have spent many years experimenting with botanical bases in which to suspend homeopathic remedies. By applying the remedy directly to the source of suffering, the remedy is able to enter the tissue and work immediately at a cellular level. For instance, when working with a woman who experienced painful menstrual cramps, I prepared a topical mixture that she applied directly to her abdomen. Within minutes, her cramps subsided. If you are ready to try a homeopathic approach to your health, I encourage you to seek out homeopathic topical lotions that will give you fast, effective relief. Consult a Homeopath for Optimum, Ongoing Health Always be sure to involve your healthcare practitioner in your quest for natural healing. From a homeopathic perspective, chronic conditions, such as yeast infections, are viewed as symptoms of a greater imbalance. While certain homeopathic remedies will bring temporary relief from symptoms of these conditions, I encourage you to work with an experienced homeopath to restore optimum balance to your bodily systems. Fishing Fall Bass - Early Fall Fishing for Bass in the Northwest as the Seasons Change

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Chris Cliff You have just rolled out of bed, poured you coffee and there it is. You knew it was coming, but it is real, it is here. What am I talking about? It’s not taxes, the Grim Reaper or even your in-laws coming for an extended stay. It is the first foggy Fall morning. If you have spent any time in the Northwest you know what that means. From here on out the weather will never get quite as hot as it did all summer, and the nights will be cooler. Sure, we may get an Indian Summer and some nice days, but the fact is, things are cooling off. Now it is time to start thinking about what that means for our Bass fishing. With the falling temperatures, Bass will start to build up their Winter reserves. This can offer some fantastic fishing opportunities if you know what to look for. Big Bass that have been hiding deep all Summer are now moving up and looking for as much food as they can. Their feeding periods will also lengthen as the Sun drops to lower angles. All the better for us! Most experts would agree that Fall Bass are suckers for the right crank bait. This means you probably will grab lures that are a little bigger than you have been using all Summer. The Bass that have made it to Fall are smart and will be looking for lures that closely match the size and color of the prey fish that spawned in the Spring. Check out what is in your lake and match up to that. Another good choice is to grab your top water lures. Again, the big Bass are looking to load up on food and will be watching for any easy meals above them. Finding the Bass is of course key. But where are they? The simple answer is, where the bait fish are. These are most likely going to be found in closer to shore than they previously were, hanging out in the shallows and around the green plants. My favorite tactic to find bait fish is to bring along an extra pole rigged with a small jig and bobber and when I am exploring a lake, drop it out in front of me and let it sit on a hole before I start throwing my Bass hooks at it. I also toss it out when I am changing or re-tying lures. If there are bait fish there, then odds are, the Bass are lurking near by. Important things to look for are areas where there is cover for the Bass to move between their deeper holding areas to the shallow feeding areas. Also remember on cloudy and windy days or in stained water, the Bass may not retreat at all to their holding areas, but may spend the day feeding in the shallows. Pay attention to water that is shallower than you would normally expect to find big fish. I have seen large Bass lurking in water as shallow as one foot. On bright days or after a cold front has moved in, you will have to go back to their mid-day holding areas to find the Bass. Remember that a cold front will affect the shallow water first and the Bass will most likely hold to the deeper water and its more stable temperatures. In this case, it is time to finesse fish a little bit and work the deeper structure. Remember drop shotting? Don’t think that the falling temperatures means a let up in the Bass fishing. Lunker Bass are waiting for you. Grab yourself an extra pull over and get out there on the water, the fish are waiting! Chris Cliff is a long time fisherman that hails from the remote lands of Northern Idaho, but has now moved to the big city. He and his crew fish the waters of the Northwest filming episodes of their own web based fishing show ‘Fishing with Cliff’. You can find it at http://www.FishingWithCliff.com/ and features more great articles, photos, links and of course episodes of their show. Think of it as a fishing show crossed with reality TV. Teen Bipolar Disorder

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Kent Pinkerton Children and teenagers with bipolar disorders can have manic or depressive symptoms. Some children may mostly have depression and others a combination of manic and depressive symptoms. Highs are usually combined with alternative lows. Bipolar disorders usually begin in childhood and during the teenage years, and may be diagnosed in adult life. This illness can affect anyone and without any specific history. If one or both parents have a bipolar disorder, the chances are greater that their children may develop it at an early age. Family history of drug or alcohol has also been associated with greater risk for bipolar disorders. Symptoms of bipolar disorders in children and teenagers are - severe changes in — unusually happy, silly, sometimes very irritable, angry, agitated or aggressive. Some teenagers experience unrealistic highs in self-esteem, for example, a teenager may start feeling very powerful or like a superhero with special powers. They may develop an increase in energy and the ability to go with little or no sleep for days without feeling tired. An adolescent may start talking too much, too fast and changes topics too frequently, without interruption due to depression. They also get distracted very easily, and attention moves constantly from one thing to another. They may also develop repetitive, high risk-taking behavior; such as abusing alcohol and drugs, reckless driving or sexual promiscuity When a teenage is in a depression he or she may develop excessive irritability, depressed moods, unrelenting sadness, frequent crying, thoughts of death or suicide, loss of enjoyment in favorite activities, frequent complaints of physical illnesses such as headaches or stomach aches, low energy level, fatigue, poor concentration, complaints of boredom and a major change in eating or sleeping patterns, such as oversleeping or overeating. Teenagers with bipolar disorder can be successfully treated. Treatments include educating the patient and their families about the illness, mood-stabilizing medications such as lithium and valproic acid and psychotherapy. Mood stabilizing medications will often reduce the severity of manic episodes, and also help prevent depression. Psychotherapy helps a child adapt to stresses, rebuild self-esteem and enhance relationships. The diagnosis of bipolar disorders in children and teens is complicated and involves careful observation over an extended period of time. Bipolar Disorder provides detailed information on Bipolar Disorder, Symptom of Bipolar Disorder, Teen Bipolar Disorder, Bipolar Disorder Treatment and more. Bipolar Disorder is affiliated with Bipolar Depression. ===> Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kent_Pinkerton http://EzineArticles.com/?Teen-Bipolar-Disorder&id=252000 prescription tramadol tramadol viagra fetal monitor online pharmacy buy tramadol online no prescription online order ultram

Arthritis and Aromatherapy

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

By Mireille Gautschi Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints and is characterized by pain, stiffness, swelling, decreased range of movement and at a more serious stage deformity.Aromatherapy is a holistic approach to health and wellness by means of aromatic, plant derived scents. It is very much a traditonal method as well as a science that encompasses the intuitive and creative aspects of preparing special purpose blends. Aromatherapy blends for the treatment of arthritis are usually made from pure essential oils, but also from hydrosols and — more recently — phytols. For application to the skin they have to be mixed with vegetable oil, a cream base or a carrier lotion. Essential Oils must always be used diluted when applied to the skin. A dilution of 3% essential oils in 97% base is generally regarded as very effective and safe. Since the reasons for the occurance of arthritis are still not completely established, it is difficult to find a cure for the disease. Arthritis could be genetic, it could have to do with bone density loss, it could also be a type of infection caused by toxins released in the body. Even more likely it is a combination of several factors. It is — at this stage — only possible to treat the pain and symptoms caused by arthritis but not it’s underlying cause. Aromatherapy is one form of arthritis treatment, using a variety of essential oils. They can be added to the bath, massaged into the skin, inhaled or applied as compresses. The right mixture of essential oils will help to relax, promote pain relief and alleviate fatigue. Essential oils can also provide psychological benefits like improving the mood and reducing anxiety. Some of the more suitable arthritis oils are Lavender, Juniper, Thyme, Rosemary, Benzoe, Eucalyptus, Camomile, Pine Scotch, Camphor, Angelica Root, Ginger, Origanum, Black Pepper and Lemon. One of the most effective ways to use aromatherapy for relieving pain and reducing inflammation are hot compresses: 1. Fill a medium size bowl with hot, but not scalding water. 2. Add 3 to 6 drops of essential oil. 3. Fold a piece of sterile cotton cloth and dip it into the bowl. 4. Squeeze out excess water, but not too much. 5. Place the wet, hot cloth onto the affected area until it has cooled down to body temperature. 6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 at least two to three times. 7. Wrap the treated area in a dry and warm towel or blanket and leave the patient to rest for a while. Another good way to use aromatherapy for arthritis relieve is to rub diluted essential oils (see above for dilution) onto pulse points and affected areas during the day. Applying essential oils throughout the day can help to alleviate pain and tension. The essential oils on the skin are quickly absorbed and enter the bloodstream. This is an excellent form of arthritis relief and works also well as a preventative measure. Aromatherapy is a natural, safe and economical option to deal with the pain and symptoms of arthritis. And above all, it has no negative side effects as so many of the conventional treatments do. In mild cases of arthritis, aromatherapy is often all that is needed to make a person comfortable. Adolescence Suicide - How to Prevent Part-4

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

By S Kalpna Sharma My dear esteem Ezine readers, today I would share with you my findings of various studies about the increasing tendency amongst new generation of teenagers and adolescences in the world. Though this problem is less known in third world countries but it is more common in developed and developing countries. Shri Jagan Nath BA, a noted social worker used to say quote Adolescents are like unripe half cast earthen pitcher, whatsoever shape the potter desires, he moulds unquote. He was of the view that parents, teachers and elders responsibility are to ensure that: one, our teenagers become the best human; two, best socially adaptable beings; three strong enough to bear any type of hardship; four be polite so that others love them; five be fearsome, worrisome and bothersome; six very judicious and sensible and; seven enthusiast, tough and agile to face ever increasing challenges of life. Based on above theme, I will dwell upon various issues which attribute towards teenagers suicide. All of you would agree that as and when a teenager has committed suicide; we united have failed to perceive his/her state of mind MSSR and VCD attributes. In this article, I would like to further progress the debate on different issues affecting a teenagers delicate state of mind. The first issue is related to the role of electronic media, televisions, magazines and various other vulgar materials which even distract most of the adults as well. How far are we responsible for making world vulgar? In the name of truth, today the electronic media has forgotten her social role. Every one knows that under the garment every one is naked but how you project this statement is the witty vision of media. Similarly, one eyed man is blind from an eye is the truth but directly addressing him as a blind XYZ would tantamount to abusing him but courteous address word would not anger him as much as bluntly being called a blind man. Today, the world media is actually misusing the right of information and liberty to pollute the society, thus, poisoning the minds of teens through their bedroom serials. So far, the world electronic media has, by and large, failed to live up to the expectations of the society. The true example could be ascertained from the fact that the media continued to telecast news of bare breast of super model whose bra had slipped down during cat walk on ramp. You will agree that our electronic media has penetrated every common mans bedroom through shows and programs. In the name of liberty, most of the televised shows are directly airing offensive and obscene immoral shows, thus, intoxicating teenagers mind at a very tender age. The fact, parents cannot compel their children itself is indicator of downfall of liberty of moral responsibilities of social pundits. The Muslim worlds hue and cry to stop Western telecast are purely due to fear of poisoning the orthodox society. I also, by and large, agree with Muslims view point of preventing vulgarity at home through media. Why at all, there are over 36,000 child porno sites on the internet? Why any government should be asking to prosecute such criminals? How deeply a teenagers mind is affected by media is difficult to fathom but how effectively it has disturb and developed Mental Disorder in their tender minds is easy to see. As the electronic media is the most effective mean of affecting teenagers mind, it should be used to save their lives and not poison. In view of the above, I suggest; Teenagers be educated to differentiate between vulgarity, obscenity and simplicity; Advise to only view programs suiting their age; Be explained as to why a program is aired to eradicate which social evil; Educate teenagers to learn on need to know basis as per their age. I often remember that when I was nearly fourteen years of age, an elder in our village has left for heavenly abode. When I tried to accompany his corpse with villagers to the crematorium, my father Shri Jagan Nath BA said quote it is a pious duty of everyone to honor and accompany anybodys departed souls corpse to crematorium but today you have not yet grown enough to accompany, therefore, return to the house. When you grow, you can go with others unquote. How deliberately and effectively my father had cultured me; both for my social and material obligations is worth noting. Educate your teenagers to be selective in viewing various programs; Always remind your teenagers that all shows are like dreams and far away from the realities of life, therefore, never try to impersonate yourself with the television or other comic characters. Never be harsh with teenagers in checking the viewing; rather educate as to why you want to check; Internet Media through which many teenagers have been victimized. In some case, these teenagers have ended their lives before even actually understanding the true meaning of marriage and their social responsibilities. Various groups, promoted to become friends; and thereafter, exploit teenagers are such bad and malevolence epidemics spread in the society. With out understanding the real encumbrances of marriage institution of society, numerous teenagers are committing suicide after plunging into it. To just overcome the desires of lust spread through media, they wed without their elders blessing, thus later leading them to commit suicide. The second issue revolves around the glamour and glitter of celebrity status and its hyped affect on todays teenagers. As the teenagers begin to live in their own dream world on entering teens, therefore, any impediment is viewed seriously. The vulgar porno activists sometimes become the role model of thousands of teenagers. While the teenagers have failed to comprehend as to how such people have become celebrity through irresponsible media glamour and catch-ups on one side, the parents neglect in blocking such vulgar sites on the other. The failure of various countries governments in setting norms for a social society, have resulted in such peoples elevation as vulgarity symbols. Mushrooming of hundreds of porno sites from United State of America, Europe and some Middle East countries need to be strongly curbed. Infact, large number of such sites are uploaded from US. How should we grow our children is not the matter; but what should we make our children socially responsible matters most in todays environment. Now days, the entire stress of our education system is to nurture our future teenagers on materialistic world with some social responsibilities. In the present days modern system of education, all the countries barring a few Muslim are more or less directed to educate as to how to accumulate worldly wealth and not to develop the social character. The Indian old education system of Sages and Saints was invented to; one first develop strong individual character, two identify students suitability for different walks of life; and three then impart specialize higher education to student in a particular field of life but the present system is filled with flaws thus making teenagers vulnerable to all type of threats. My esteem readers would be surprised to know that every year thousands of girl teenagers are being pushed into flesh trade and prostitution due to various reasons in all over the world. Thirdly, I would say that teenager who is bubbling with the curiosity to explore the world with whatsoever little knowledge they possess are easiest target to penetrate. Why teenagers fall easy pray is due to: One; High ability to take risk in life. The teenagers being immature are unable to analyze problems deeply, thus taking risk without fully knowing its implications. Two; inquisitiveness to explore and learn early; all neglected teenagers have been generally found to be indulging in trying to know about the life and world early. A large number of teenagers have succumbed to various criminals and unlawful people. Three; curiosity to compete with others as I am the first; It is revealed from the study of few cases of girls suicide; that they had too end their lives because in the urge to know first, they had fallen pray to the wrong doers. After knowing the weaknesses of teenagers, we can introduce steps to prevent teenagers suicide. Once again role of parents and teachers is significant in guiding and steering such teenagers to a respectable social life. I would further recommend that we have to make our electronic and print media more accountable and responsible towards the society. Such media shows exposing vulgarity and nudity must stop even if it is achieved at the cost of curbing some liberties. The truth of liberty that every human being is born naked, therefore, all human should live as such, can only be allowed in jungle and forests but not in a civilized society. I would further dwell upon the issues to prevent teenagers suicide. The irritants which teenagers hate would also be touched up on. I convey my appreciation and sincere thanks to all Ezine esteem readers once again. I, S kalpna Sharma am a freelance writer who generally writes on various issues relating human values. This year I have also decided to seek ezinereaders help in making the year Suicide Free Teenagers Year-2007 (SFTY-007). I am likely to generate awareness amongst readers to spread the message to prevent suicide of adolescence boys and girls. Reading for Pleasure

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

By Gentry Ellis Ive always been a reader. As early as I can remember Ive enjoyed being mesmerized by a good book. Ive always loved the adages about books taking us on adventures or books being the route for escapism. Some of my fondest childhood memories are about books and reading. I grew up in a household with uncensored television viewing, yet I rarely remember the programs I watched. I can, however, truly reminisce about many of the books I read. During my fourth grade year I had a mediocre teacher and it was a difficult year on me socially. However, I remember our teacher reading us Summer of the Monkeys with enthusiasm over the course of a couple of weeks. She said it was a tradition that she always read this book to her class. Each day us students would ask her what happens next? and quickly finish up our assignments so we could get on to story hour. I loved that story and recently reread it as an adult. I cant wait to share it with my own kids in a few years. I think when you look at a persons bookshelves it tells you a lot about a person. If you look at my bookshelves you will see what kinds of foods I am passionate about cooking, how I get my gardening ideas, what parenting styles I support, and all the other terrific literature I love. You will see my hobbies, interests, and passions reflected in my library of books. They help transform my house into a home. They add heart and soul to my world. There are often books on my nightstands, coffee tables, bathrooms, all around my home. Im a reader. Its not uncommon for me to be reading more than one book at a time. Perhaps youll find a novel by my bedside, a parenting book in my bathroom, and a book on home design in my living room. Books are an acceptable and good form of clutter in my house. I am always shocked at how few people actually read. For many, its a quick newspaper or magazine article here or there but never a really good book. Even rarer are people who read the classics or poetry. I think literature is as important in the human experience as music, art, and most certainly television. If you are raising children and you want them to be avid readers, one of the best things you can do is become an avid reader yourself. Children learn by example and we are their role models. I encourage everyone to read moreeven if you feel you already read a lot. Try different kinds of reading and get to know your local library. I could never afford to buy all the books Id like so I have to rely on the library for much of my reading. I try to limit my purchasing of books to ones I will want to reference often such as cookbooks or hobby books. I do try to stock up on a variety of classic books. I think it is important to read the classics and I want my children to read them. I often will reread a classic every 10 years or so. I have a huge assortment of childrens books that are readily available for my son. Even with this, we try to visit the local library at least once a week. We both check out a lengthy list of books on a regular basis. Most libraries today have advanced and easy to use websites so you can put a list of books on hold and just pick them up quickly when you get to the library. Many libraries also have story times, book groups, and great reading lists for children or adults. Check with yours to learn about these free services. Libraries, like good parks, are a wonderful part of our country. One of my familys favorite outings is a trip to the bookstore. We particularly love the big ones that have nice childrens areas and a coffee shop inside. My husband and I take turns staying with my son in the childrens area (where he can easily occupy hours if wed let him) while the other one browses books or gets something from the caf. The bookstore is a good place to browse the books and determine which ones you really want. Its also a great place for children to shop for new books, attend story times, and spend a rainy day. I admit though, I rarely purchase books from these types of bookstores because they tend to mark up the books a great deal. I sometimes buy second hand books, but I do enjoy having new books. They are one of my little luxuries. My favorite place to purchase books is usually Amazon where I often qualify for free shipping if I wait and order several books at once and make my order over $25. They often have low prices and good deals on new books. They also offer a wish list you can create and I especially enjoy putting together one for my son. I find many friends and family struggle for an idea of what to get him on his birthday or holidays and this enables them to easily shop for him. It has also helped expand his library of childrens books extensively. Being part of an organized reading circle or book club is a wonderful way to expand your mind and encourage yourself to read more. However, the best part of a belonging to a book club is they usually encourage you to read books you would otherwise have not read. A book club can take you out of your circle of comfort when it comes to reading and expedite you in expanding your personal library. Many of us are far too likely to discuss our favorite TV show with our friends but are much less likely to engage in discussions about good books weve read lately. In addition to these benefits, belonging to a good book club will also give you the opportunity to make new friendships that are based on a love of reading. You may find youll maintain these friendships through life as reading is a life long interest. Anyone can read, it doesnt require good weather, good health, or material expense. Ive put together a few suggestions to get you started organizing a book club if you are not already part of one and some suggested readings. Gentry is a stay at home mom, with a passion for writing. What Do My Lab Results Mean?

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Denice_Moffat] Denice Moffat One of the most frightening things I learned while in veterinary school was that blood results are not really considered abnormal by a lab test until the body is 70% sick. I found that to be true in my own health as well. When I first started on my path toward becoming a naturopath, I knew I had pre-cervical cancer. I was depressed and wanted to die. Yet, only one liver enzyme was a bit out of whack when a nurse drew my blood for a life insurance policy. How could this be? And what surprised me most was how normal the rest of my results were. Well, I’ve corrected all those abnormal results and have my life back. I also have a whole new bag of tricks at my disposal. Another thing Ive found over the years was that my clients had no idea what their lab results meant (or their pet’s lab results), what a “rule out” was, or what they could do naturally to repair the abnormal values. Everything seemed so complicated for them, and by not understanding the results (often people in the medical profession use big words that most people cant understand) this disempowered my clients. Because I saw a need for this information, I sat down and compiled a handout that explains lab tests in lay terms, but there are some things you should know: 1. Reference “normal” ranges and unit measurements can vary from lab to lab (sometimes up to 30% difference). 2. Other factors influencing test results include, dietetic preferences, sex, age, race, species, menstrual cycles, amount of exercise, use of non-prescription drugs (aspirin, cold medications, vitamins, etc.), prescription drugs, alcohol consumption, collection and handling of the specimen. 3. For best comparisons of lab results, tests should be done by the same laboratory. 4. Always use the normal ranges printed on the lab report of that particular sample. 5. Blood tests can have false positives and negatives. If the blood cells have not been handled properly, they break. If components to the test are expired, they may not work correctly. If the temperature is wrong, this may also skew the results. And what if there is a new person in the lab who doesn’t even do the test correctly? Would you trust those results? When in doubt, you may want to repeat certain tests. 6. Interpretation of blood tests takes knowledge of the underlying disease process and experience. If your lab results are outside the normal range, we suggest that you discuss them with your doctor. Often it is not the recent result, but the change from a previous test that is most helpful in trying to place a diagnosis on a condition. 7. Some tests cost more than others. If you can help the doctor understand why a certain test may be important for you and they can justify it in their mind, they can justify it to your insurance company and you may get to your diagnosis quicker saving time, money, and aggravation. 8. All diseases have “rule outs.” There are a number of things that might cause a high or low level in a blood test, and these need to be ruled out by other tests or observations or even by intuition and gut instinct. Some of the possibilities will have more weight and be more highly suspect because of your lifestyle habits, your environment, your age, and your history. For those diseases that are the most likely diagnosis, other tests may be included to rule that particular disease in or out depending on the results of these additional tests. This is much like putting a jigsaw puzzle together and searching for the exact placement of the pieces to the puzzle. Certain clues (pieces to the puzzle) may fit in one part of the puzzle or another if you just look at the color of the piece (or your symptoms in this case.) You just have to keep trying to see if the piece fits. The same goes with disease. If we are lucky, we match the piece of the puzzle with the correct name/diagnosis for the disease. This Sherlock Holmes activity is one of my favorites because I get to add in so many other tidbits of information that the medical system doesn’t have time to ask in making a final “jigsaw puzzle” assessment. I have tried to make these rule-outs more understandable by associating the laymans terminology with the medical work on my website page: http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.com/BasicsofHealth/lab_result_meaning1.htm Here, Ive listed the rule-outs, what you see on your blood test form, the common name it is known by as well as the other abbreviations for the test if it has one for most of the basic blood panels, heart enzyme tests, urinalysis tests, complete white blood counts, red cell counts, thyroid tests, hormone tests and more. Ive been told its a pretty good list. Check it out and see if it empowers you!
